Polycarbonate (PC)
PolyCarbonate (PC) is a high-performance thermoplastic polymer offering exceptional impact resistance and transparency for textile applications. It is utilized in the preparation stage for specialty fibers and filaments requiring high durability and stiffness, often used in technical textiles or composite materials.
PC can be easily molded and thermoformed while maintaining its outstanding mechanical properties. The material can also be blended with other polymers to enhance specific characteristics like UV resistance or flame retardancy.
Despite its impressive features, PC has certain drawbacks. It is relatively expensive compared to other plastics and can be susceptible to scratching. It may also degrade when exposed to certain chemicals or prolonged UV radiation without proper additives. Some concerns exist about BPA leaching from PC products under specific conditions.
Applications:
1. Extrusion of Polycarbonate fibers for smart textiles (e.g., heated clothing, sensor integration).
2. Production of specialized camouflage textiles to reduce thermal signature (IR visual detection).
3. Manufacturing of durable bobbins and textile machine bearings used in yarn processing and weaving/knitting.
4. Development of hybrid materials/blends for enhanced mechanical or thermal properties in fabric coatings.
Key Features:
* Exceptional heat resistance for stability during high-temperature thermal setting processes.
* High mechanical strength ensures durability and resistance to wear in technical textiles.
* Excellent dimensional stability, minimizing shrinkage and deformation in finished fabrics.
* High clarity and transparency, enabling superior optical properties for specialized applications.
